English Voice Acting Demos

News: I play the role of Brinnarde in audio drama The Man Who Fell to Earth, opposite Christopher Ecclestone and Harry Treadaway, broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on 12th May and then available on BBC Sounds.

I believe that all voiceover work is acting. Even the most conversational read requires skills such as connecting with the text, communicating a message to the listener truthfully and embodying brand identity.

However, this page presents my work in areas that are probably more traditionally thought of as acting, such as video games, audio drama and animation. Often, though not always, this involves voicing in character, meaning taking on a persona that is different to my own. This does not necessarily mean putting on a “character voice”. The latter is simply a by-product of character choices made. Sometimes, the end voice is very different to my own natural speaking voice, and of course that is a skill in itself, but I’d like to think that the changes all come from decisions made about the character.

As a trained actor, these areas of voiceover tend to be the ones I find most creatively fulfilling. They require leaps of imagination, the ability to “find a way in” to roles and being present in the moment during actual recordings.

Video Games

News: I provide the voice of Aymeric Cassel in the DLC Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty!

I have been playing video games (or computer games as I like to call them!) since I was a young child. I enjoy virtually every style of game and although on the whole I’m not very good at them, I have amassed a fair few hours of gameplay over the years…

This fondness and knowledge imbues all the work I do in this area. As a trained actor, I appreciate the need for truthful, fully-rounded performances. I also have an ear for accents and an ability to change my voice quite dramatically, which comes in handy for monsters!

Being perfectly bilingual in French and English (have I mentioned that before? ;-) ), I usually get employed primarily to voice a French character but I then also provide voices for multiple smaller characters in a range of British and American accents.

Animation

News: A new trailer for Gargoyle Doyle has recently been released (see below). After a successful showcase at the Venice Bienniale last year, it will be presented at the Annecy Animation Festival in June 2024.

Like a lot of others of my generation, I spent many a Saturday morning (and weekday evening!) watching cartoons as a kid. My personal favourites were Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light, Defenders of the Earth, Mask and Transformers. Everyone knows the latter of course but who remembers the others? :-)

This life-long love of cartoons means it’s always a thrill to provide voices for animation projects, though a lot of the ones I’ve worked on tend to be geared more towards the adult market. Larger-than-life characters, energy and excitement still prevail and, though always rooted in truth, the animated roles I’ve voiced make me really excited and transport me back to my childhood!

With two small kids of my own, I once again have my finger on the pulse of current animation trends and really enjoy watching these new programmes with my boys!
